The amount of Maltese liri notes of the Fourth Series – which were characterised by the depiction of the former President Agatha Barbara – still in circulation
stands at ˆ2.35m.
LM2 and Lm5 banknotes of the fourth series ceased to be legal tender, 12 years ago, precisely on June 15, 1998.

The Central Bank of Malta is reminding the public that the fourth series of the LM10 banknotes will not remain exchangeable after September 13.
Whoever is in possession of any of these notes is encouraged to exchange them as soon as possible, as they will become worthless.
These notes can be exchanged at par at the Annex of the Central Bank of Malta, St. James’s Counterguard, Valletta until 12.30h on Monday September 13, 2010.
There is also around Lm30 million in 5th series banknotes which must be exchanged to euro by February 2018.
