01.07.2010
The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (Funglode) works to stage the “FUNGLODE Forum for Peace” in the Middle East, to take place in the resort on
Dominican Republic’s eastern region from July 23 to 25.
Dominican President Leonel Fernandez, who promotes the initiative, will head the activity together with a select group of participants from Palestine,
Israel, Jordan, Egypt, Latin America and the United States, among others.

More about the event

“For three days will be debated the past and present processes destined to achieve peace and to end the Arab-Israeli conflict,” a Funglode statement says.
It said the Dominican President has taken this initiative to invite a group of distinguished representatives and experts in the conflict to Cap Cana,
based on the fact that what happens in one region affects everyone one way or another. “We live in the era of globalization and any event which occurs
in anywhere in the world affects us. Peace or war in the Middle East affects the world and, for that reason, the Dominican Republic takes the step to organize this event.”
“Fernandez believes that the pleasant and relaxing atmosphere of Cap Cana, where the conversations will be carried out, will facilitate the analysis,
debate and reflection on the topics and complex ideas surrounding the conflict, to contribute in that manner to a better understanding,” it said, adding
that from his point of view, a discussion in a relaxed atmosphere can help those currently and directly involved in the peace process in the effort to reach a
fair and lasting peace in the region.
