The Dominica Police Force has welcomed 32 new officers into its ranks

A graduation ceremony was held at the Police Training School on Morne Bruce on Friday evening. Fourteeen awards were bestowed on deserving police officers during the ceremony. Best Recruit, Best at Police Duty Subject, and Baton of Honour went to No 423 Anselm Austrie. First Runner- Up and Best at Physical Training was No 158 Kimaura Thomas. Best at Weapon Training, Best at Drills, Best Turned-Out Male, Best at Physical Training - male went to No 190 Josiah Cornelius. The Commissioner’s Shield and Most Disciplined was awarded to No 239 Peterson Royer.

The 28th Recruit Training Course

The graduates were schooled in sociology, human rights, communication skills, and psychology in addition to the traditional police courses. At Friday’s graduation they presenting $1,000 to the House of Hope, a non-profit organization in Delices which cares for physically and mentally challenged individuals. The new officers collected the money during weekly worship sessions while they were on training. Head of the House of Hope, former Minister of Agriculture Heskeith Alexander, was on hand to accept the donation from the officers. A number of officials addressed the event including Acting Prime Minister Reginald Austrie, National Security Minister Charles Savarin, and Acting Commissioner of Police Hobbs Jno Baptiste. Acting Deputy Commissioner Cyrille Carrette was the Master of Ceremony. The 28th Recruit Training Course began on August 16, 2009 and concluded yesterday with the graduation ceremony.
