Central African Republic - tourism -- Review --

For the undertaking tourists who anticipate adventures the Central African republic with its wide variety of virgin nature and rich culture is a dream come true. Dangers exist however - there are constant assaults on tourists. In Bangui and some parts of the country there are even cases of abductions of tourists. Because of this, information about the current situation in the country should be sought up in some ambassadory before travel. The accomodation is nowhere near the high international standarts even in Bangui and in the countryside there are only shelters in some of the natural parks built for the lovers of nature. Ecotourism is offered by the national park of Dzhanga-Sangha where a person can even meet a leader of the Pygmy tribe. People fond of safari can go out of the reserves and try out hunting non - endangered species.

There are a handful of sights to see in the Central African Republic which are all mainly in the capital Bangui. The Museum of Boganda is a well-organized place that has a large array of artefacts and local musical instruments, which you are allowed to try out. The museum also displays pygmy cultural artefacts. The entrance charge is US$1, which comes inclusive of a guide. The Centre Artisanal, displays artistic works of local artists. On display are carvings, bracelets, leather goods, paintings and batiks, just to name a few. The Perroni Gallery, though expensive, is worth taking a look at. Mr. Perroni, originally from Martinique, is the man supporting most of the artists in CAR today. Northwest of Bangui, you’ll come across the Chutes de Boali. This is a waterfalls best viewed in the rainy season, because during the dry season the falls peter out to a mere trickle. To see indigenous tribes in their pristine habitat, visit the Lobaye Region, 100km from Bangui. They live in small clusters of low huts made of the liana creeper and roofed with leaves. Almost similar is the M’Baiki Region, 100km southwest of Bangui. If ancient tribal rites interest you, get the feel at Bouar, in the east of CAR where there are burial mounds with megaliths reputed to be thousands of years old. In Bangassou is the spectacular Kembe Falls on the River Kotto.
